Michael’s Kids Club

I recently took my four-year-old daughter to a Michael’s Kids Club event in Springfield. I didn’t really know what to expect, and she was pretty surprised to learn that we weren’t going to do any walking-down-every-aisle-in-search-of-that-one-thing shopping. Now I know that there is a little room in the very back of the store, next to the frames, where fun kid magic happens. We were the only ones there when we arrived, and the “teacher” was sitting, working on the craft of the day. She was so pleasant and welcoming when we came in, and we had a lot of fun talking while we learned how to make love bugs for Valentine’s Day. My daughter required a tiny bit of help coordinating the gluing on of the cotton balls, and cutting the pipe cleaner, but for the most part, she was able to do the craft with little help. A few older kids came in as we were almost finished, and they enjoyed it as well. The finished craft was adorable and we will definitely be going back to make more crafty things in the future!

Two things to know about Michael’s Kids Club events. First, you have to register and it costs between $2 – $5 (depending on your child’s age). For me, that’s worth it since I couldn’t even begin to buy all of the supplies needed for these crafts for less than $10. Secondly, you’re allowed to walk around and shop while your child is working on his/her craft. However, I wanted to make it a fun mother-daughter outing so I stayed with her and helped her. I’m not sure what most parents/grandparents do, but I’m sure it’s fine either way.s

My recommendation: GO. Especially if you need to go to Michael’s anyway (I mean, who doesn’t need to go to Michael’s?) and can spare 30-45 minutes to stop for a little bonding, creative time.
