Stories, Songs and Smiles

One of our new favorite free events right now is Racing to Read Storytime at the Greene County Libraries. We’ve tried a few at several libraries, and went to the Library Center this week for the 3-6 year old storytime. I was pleasantly surprised at how competent and fun the leader was. Each of the kids put on a name tag as they entered, and she interacted with all them by name throughout the story time. The theme this week was balloons, and all of the kids were super engaged as they danced to a song, listened to two books, played a game of balloon catch together, watched a theme-related Max & Ruby clip, helped to tell a felt-board story, and made a craft at the end. They met some new kids, I met a new mom, and we came away with a cute balloon dot craft to hang on the refrigerator. Plus, we checked out some new books for the week to read at home, making the trip even more worthwhile because we got two things done at one place. Stories, crafts, songs and books – all for FREE. Fun for kids. Easy for me.

Note: Racing to Read Storytimes are scheduled for different age groups (infant – 6, infant – 36 months and 3-6 years old). There are also lots of activities for Elementary-age and Teens/Tweens! Check out the program schedule here: https://thelibrary.org/programs/
